Newest Acquisitions (Virtual "Show & Tell") ~ part 364

Today we're featuring a gorgeous modern fountain pen belonging to Vincent! In his email, he writes: "I just received a pen that has been in the making for 5 and a half years... a long time to be sure. It started out as a black ebonite Vapor made by Shawn Newton of Newton Pens.

The beginning:

"Eight facets that line up perfectly.  The nib is a Jowo #6 steel ground XXXF - I have a few other nibs that will fit in the Jowo housing, but this one writes quite nicely already, so I might keep it.  It doesn't even need the usual smoothing that I do to my needlepoints."

"It then went to Hakumin Urushi Kobo for a pinstripe Raden with Green Turban Snail."

"Strips of the nacre (mother of pearl) were cut and bonded to the facets of the pen body with urushi.  The gaps were then filled in with layers of urushi and cured, after which it was polished smooth."

"This took a very long time due to the many layers needed and also material shortages - sourcing the urushi itself from Japan was problematic over the past few years."

"In any case, I think the results are stunning and the wait well worth it!"

Wow, was it ever worth the wait! Our thanks to Vincent for sharing his amazing new acquisition with us :)
